School council

Our school council plays a very active role in the life of Saltford School ensuring that the children’s views are shared and acted upon. Two representatives from each class (Year 1 to Year Six) are chosen by the children in September. They attend meetings either jointly or as separate Key Stages with Mrs Spincer.  Here is our current team:

We carry out an annual Pupil Questionnaire. We always look at the outcomes and think about how they can help us improve our school. We have produced this presentation all about our school to share with other schools in the Futura Learning Partnership.

Clubs

In addition to normal classroom activities we run a variety of clubs at school. Some meet during the lunch break and others after school. We are always keen to hear from you if you could offer any new clubs. See our clubs page for full information and timetable.

Spanish club

Music tuition

Instrumental lessons are taught by the West of England Music Alliance, offering violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass, voice, piano and percussion. We also offer descant recorder tuition from Year Two upwards.

Outdoor learning

It is important for children to experience a variety of environments as part of their learning. We love to get outside in our extensive and varied school grounds in all weathers. We have plenty of stimulating play areas – including the iconic Ark and the climbing frame – and other spaces for quieter enjoyment and discovery such as the school garden. Early Years have their own covered outdoor area for maximum opportunity and their own bike track. All children benefit from our own sports field and playground facilities.

Forest school

We are fortunate to be within easy reach of local Manor Woods. Forest school takes children to this different, inspiring, setting where they can enjoy practical activities in smaller groups. They rise to the particular challenges of being outside and grow in confidence as they see what they can accomplish. Sessions are designed to build team working skills and independence.

Green team in action

Green team

Our green team is full of people who are interested in looking after the environment and growing things and who like being outdoors. The green team meets with Mr Boyle once a term and is responsible for making Saltford a GREEN and sustainable school. They have been working with other Futura schools on our Sustainability Action Plan and they presented this assembly to inspire us all to live more sustainably. Green team is open to all children from year one to year six.

E-team

E is for equality. We have established an E-team to ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly, and no-one is left out or discriminated against.

E-team has regular meetings with Miss Jupp (PSHE and E-team leader) to discuss current topics and E-team projects.

E-team is also leading a lot of the work that Saltford School is doing about the UNICEF Rights of the Child. E-team are working to promote the UNICEF Rights of the Child by leading assemblies, making posters and leading discussions in their classes. You can see our assembly presentation here. Digital leaders

Digital leaders support ICT and computing across the school and in the community. 

Digital leaders support Computing throughout the school by assisting staff with setting up for Computing lessons, using multimedia in assemblies and leading online safety discussions amongst pupils. Pupils who may be worried about their online safety know they can always talk to a digital leader if they need advice.The digital leaders enjoy visits to local community sessions where they support older people with their computing learning.

This club is open to a maximum of 10 Year 5 and 6 children. Please see the office for an application form.

Active travel

Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. Saltford C of E Primary is the first school in Bath and North East Somerset to receive a silver award as part of the national Modeshift STARS scheme.

We have introduced a number of measures to encourage cycling and walking, including free Active Travel Breakfasts for those who walk, cycle or scoot to school, poster competitions and have created Active Ambassadors to represent pupils and come up with ideas to improve travel to school.  Year 5 and 6 pupils have been given bikeability training while new bike racks and scooter pods have also been installed.

Our aprons show we can help

A caring school

There are many other ways in which our children support each other during the school day. This makes school life happier and giving children the opportunity to help promotes a collective responsibility for the success of the school.

In the morning, our 'wake and shake' team lead regular activity sessions (often to music) to get the day off to a positive start.

At playtime our playground leaders support other children with their play and the use of our 'Huff and Puff' equipment.

At lunchtime, each KS2 class takes a turn to support the EYFS and KS1 classes a week at a time, both in the dinner hall and on the playground.

Every Year 6 child is encouraged to take a monitor role such as distributing school milk or helping in the library.
