Mufti Day Friday 17th June
In exchange for the children wearing their own clothes to school, we asked for donations of bottles for the tombola and/or items for summer hampers which will be made up as raffle prizes by the PTA. Thanks to everyone who supported this so generously.
Friday 8th July
EYFS/ KS1 children are delighted to entertain you with their summer concert on the theme of Animals on Friday 8th July.
We will have two performances of the concert- 9.15am and 10.30am and it will last approximately 30 minutes. Due to limited space in our hall and an ongoing commitment to keep everyone safe, this will be a ticketed event with each family being entitled to 2 tickets. Babies/ Toddlers/ Pre school Children will not require a ticket but we ask that they are seated on laps.
Tickets will be available after school from your youngest child's class teacher on Monday 27th June. If you are unable to collect your tickets, please could you arrange for another parent to do this for you. We don't always see notes in reading folders.
The EYFS/ KS1 team is looking forward to welcoming you back into school.
OK, fellas, this was our moment
Presented by HM Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Annie Maw
On Friday 10th June, we were lucky enough to be visited by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mrs Annie Maw, and her Deputy Mrs Craig. Mrs Maw started her working life as a nurse and has spent her life dedicated to many charitable causes. At the end of 2014 Annie was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Somerset and in March 2015 she became Lord Lieutenant. She is patron, trustee or president of a large number of different organisations across the county and represents the Queen for our area.
She came to visit as a result of the Green Team's work this year - planting a tree for the Platinum Jubilee and carrying out activities working towards The Junior Forester award. Because of this work, our school has been chosen to receive a number of special coins marking the Jubilee.
Mrs Maw joined us for an assembly presentation put together by Mrs Newark all about the Green Team's work and then spent some time with the children who had been involved in the activities. She presented them with a certificate celebrating their work, as well as three special books promoting caring for the environment. The children really enjoyed telling Mrs Maw and Mrs Craig all about their favourite activities and she was fascinated to find out what they had been up to. You can see the assembly presentation here for more detail of all the interesting work the Green Team did.
Our visitors were then shown around our school by Mrs. Sage, who pointed out all the work that has been done to improve the environment on our grounds.
Many thanks to the Green Team, Mrs Newark, Mr Boyle and Mrs Hamlen for all their hard work towards this award.
If you go into the woods this term...
In the summer term, all classes will be visiting Manor Woods for a Forest School session for a whole morning or a whole afternoon. This year the focus will be on supporting mental well-being and building resilience. As the children enjoy this lovely opportunity throughout the term, we will be sharing updates on this website, on our Twitter account and in our weekly newsletters.
If you would like to volunteer to accompany the children on the day, please use the links in this letter to parents.
The sessions are as follows:
Thursday 9th June: Butterflies morning from 9am and Bumblebees afternoon from midday.
Friday 17th June: Elm morning from 9am and Horse chestnut afternoon from midday.
Thursday 30th June: Ash morning from 9am and Oak afternoon from midday.
Friday 1st July: Sycamore morning from 9am and Lime afternoon from midday.
Thursday 14th July: Willow morning from 9am and Maple afternoon from midday.
Monday 18th July: Palm morning from 9am and Cherry afternoon from midday.
Tuesday 19th July: Apple morning from 9am and Pear afternoon from midday.
All children will need to wear suitable, waterproof clothing and wellies or walking boots. If it is a hot day, they will need to wear a sun hat and sun cream. The children will be able to have their lunch at school before they go or when they return.
