Summer fair for children July 16th
Although Covid restrictions may be lifted by July the PTA have decided that we can’t have our usual event with families attending this year but there will be a covid-safe fair for the children to enjoy at school on Friday July 16th in their year group bubbles. The PTA will be holding a raffle to raise money for school funds. Following the success of the Christmas hampers, we are asking for donations for some magnificent summer fare hampers for the raffle.
The PTA is requesting a contribution of £4 to cover the costs of making sure the summer fair is a fun event for all children. This is payable online through the PTA ticketing system: www.pta-events.co.uk/saltfordschoolpta/index.cfm?event=event&eventId=38028#.YNCbbtVKjIU. Read on to see what's lined up for the children. Costs have been kept low but, because we have had to cancel many events recently, we have not raised the funds we would have liked and our summer fair is usually a major fundraiser. If you would like to and are in a position to do so, you can make an extra contribution when you place your child's snack order. You can amend this amount to your preferred level.
For the children
The PTA has organised lots of fun games, great competitions and some crafts to take home as well as a tasty treat. For the £4 the children will each have a set time to go around the 8 games stalls to win some prizes, have a go on the tombolas to win books, soft toys and games. They will also have two craft activities to bring home that are lovely keepsakes and they will enjoy your chosen treat outside under the tree in their year group bubbles.
There is also a special commemorative badge for each child to bring home to remind them of these last two years. Every child will receive a badge whether or not the parent has made a contribution. No child we will be denied access to the day if you are struggling to make the payment. If this is the case, please speak with your class teacher about the snack you would like your child to have. If the snack offered is not suitable because of dietary requirements then please email PTA@saltfordschool.org.uk to discuss alternatives.
Donations for the summer fair stalls
To support the children's fair we are asking for the following: TEDDIES, GAMES, BOOKS AND DVDS.
If you have any soft toys that are no longer played with please donate them to our Teddy Tombola. They can be of any type but must be clean and undamaged. We will also be running a games, books and DVDs tombola so any complete games, books and DVDs in good condition that you could donate would be much appreciated. A collection box is outside the main school reception NOW so please drop off anything you have. You can also send in your donations with your child and they will be moved to the collection box by school.
Raffle and Mufti day
Friday 2nd July will be a mufti day, in exchange for a donation for the summer hampers! We would welcome anything you might like to take on a summer picnic. Some suggestions are....
- Kids' fizzy drinks
- Suntan lotion
- After sun (wishful thinking!)
Prizes to be won!
This virtual balloon race, took off at12pm on the 2nd June from Westminster Abbey. The race was real but totally online. Balloons cost £3 each and the race was based on real time weather patterns.
Being totally virtual, it has many advantages; you could decide on your balloon's thickness, how full they are, how they are decorated and, of course, it is kinder to the environment than a race with real balloons.
The PTA winners are in! They all travelled over 51km, with Milo's winning balloon travelling a circuitous 51.74km to end up north of Chelmsford near Great Waltham.
The winners have been awarded their certificates and WH Smith vouchers from the PTA:
- 1st place, Milo B in class MN
- 2nd place, Ruby S in class ED
- 3rd place, Maya Y in class NS.
There were great prizes to be won from the organisers and from the PTA – double chances!
Eco Racing Prizes are:
- 1st £500
- 2nd Apple iPad
- 3rd 10 x £10 book tokens
PTA prizes are 3 x £15 WH Smiths vouchers for the 3 furthest-travelled PTA balloons.
This year we have not been able to hold any in-person events so have had to find new ways to raise money for the school.

Ted is shining a light on coeliac
Ted from Class RJ has committed to cycling 50km in support of the #ShineALightOnCoeliac campaign. He wants to raise awareness and funds that will help support children and young people living with coeliac disease. The campaign is organised by Coeliac UK.
Ted says that since his diagnosis he misses lots of food that he used to love but, most of all, he misses eating party foods at friends' birthday parties.
He’s now almost half way through his 50k cycling challenge with riding to and from school this week, and has already smashed his £150 fundraising target but is still hoping for more. He is very grateful for all the support so far, but if anyone else would like to support him his page is https://coeliacuk.enthuse.com/pf/ted-flynn.
Well done Ted. We're proud of your positive attitude.
EYFS had a wonderful time at Forest School on Friday. From learning about birds to toasting marshmallows and swinging in the hammocks – they loved every minute! Lots of children said their favourite part was the fire and eating s'mores!
Getting back in the pool from June
We are now able to restart swimming for all children from the week commencing 7th June. The current timetable is here in PDF form and below.
Helpers needed for this activity
Volunteers are essential to support this activity and we would be very grateful if you could consider if you are able to help. All volunteers are required to hold a school DBS certificate. Anyone who has helped with this activity previously does not need to reapply for a DBS, but if you do not hold a current DBS with this establishment, it needs to be organised prior to your volunteering. If this applies to you, please contact the school office for further information as soon as possible.
If you are signed up to help, or are wondering what is involved with regard to safety, please read the current guidelines for swimming helpers here.
Please see our swimming information here for some extra information about volunteering and DBS checks.
Electronic sign-up and privacy
There is an electronic sign-up sheet for each class which shows the number of helpers required and how many spaces are available. This uses a volunteer sign up website https://volunteersignup.org which our PTA has used previously for sign up to help with fundraising for school fairs. When you offer to help you will be asked for your first and last name, email address and phone number. You cannot proceed without this. Personal details are not used for anything other than running the site. The website’s privacy notice is available here: volunteersignup.org/legal/privacy
